Not all animals are able to learn and imitate sounds but those that do have something rather remarkable in common. I'm Jim Metzner, and this is the Pulse of the Planet, presented by DuPont. Erich Jarvis is an Assistant Professor of Neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center. His research measures the brain activity of hummingbirds, one of a limited number of animals which are known to be able to learn and reproduce complex sound patterns.
"So when these birds sing, part of the brain is activated and we have methods of detecting what brain areas are involved in production of these learned sounds. You can then ask, whether or not those structures that you have now identified are same as or different as to what you've seen in other vocal learning species. "
Studies conducted in Brazil, revealed some startling likenesses between the brains of hummingbirds and other animals with similar vocal learning abilities.
"What we found was quite surprising to us and remarkable. Hummingbirds, as well as the song birds and parrots, all had seven brain structures that were activated during singing behavior. They didn't have five, they didn't have six, one didn't have twelve. Each of them had seven structures. And of those seven structures, three of them were in identical brain locations and the other four were in closely related brain locations. Why is that so remarkable? Well it's thought that they evolved their brain structure independently in the past sixty-five million years? So if they evolved it independently, how did they do it in almost the exactly the same way ?"
Erich Jarvis hopes that in the future information gathered from hummingbirds will allow medical researchers to better understand speech problems in humans. * What we found was quite surprising to us, remarkable.这句的口语特点比较明显，remarkable用来补充说明对于这些发现的感受，其前面应该是省略了it's，这在口语历史很常见的。（个人观点，欢迎探讨。 ）
* Hummingbirds as well as songbirds and parrots all had seven (ring) structures that were activated during singing behavior.
* They didn't have five,they didn't have six,(one) didn't have twelve.

sunmoon，我赞同你对do的理解，those they do语法上说不太过去，我是指those和they两个代词并列不太常见。而我的意见to do动词不定时作定语修饰those，合起来就表示能够去学习并模仿声音的那些鸟。
以上括号中的部分是我不能肯定的地方。
个人觉得像这样一次交流这么多的内容还是太累了。大家也容易对不上号的。所以以后不论怎么样我们都还是一段一段来吧！

另those they do,前文讲并不是所有的动物都有这中能力，那么这里those they do指的是那些有这些能力的动物，do指代前面的are able to learn and imitate sounds.我认为是很合理的。如果是those they to那么怎么解释呢?

明日又要更新了，冒昧将后段一起贴出来，以供抛砖引玉
study ()review some startling likeness between the brains of honeybirds and other animals which simiarly in vocal learning abilities.what we found was quite surprising to us remarkable. honeybird as well as songbirds in paradise all have 7 main structure structures there were activated during sing behavior.they didn't have 5,they didn't have 6,nor didn't have 12.each of them have 7 structures.and (all) the 7 structures there of them were identical brain location and the other four were in closely related brain locations . why that's remarkable well it's (due at)they evolve the main struction independedly in the past 65 million years.so they evolve indenpendly how did they do it almost exactly the same way.every () hope in the future information gathered from hummingbirds allow medical researches better understand speech problemes of humanes . host of planet is present by du pont,() of miracle of science for 200 yeares with the addition support by the national science foundation. i am~~

我总体上听了两遍，觉得就像rainny所说得那样基本上没有什么生词，所以就没有进行提示了（不知道每次的提示是否有必要？对于标准英语我觉得大家在一起多探讨好像更有益一些），不过最主要还是现在手上要做的事情比较多，能偷懒就偷一下了。
